SATURDAY OR SUNDAY, OR WHAT DAY FOR WORSHIP?

As concerning if the New Testament believers should keep to the Jewish sabbath day or not. I will want to give scriptural clarity concerning this topic to many believers who are confused as to what day to worship.

Get this clear:

● God rested on the seventh day (but God never made it a law, as it was never revealed in scriptures that Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham etc rested on the seventh day). Therefore it was neither a law nor instructions to the saints that lived before the Law

● In the law, God gave the Israelites the instruction of keeping to the sabbath day which was to be on the seventh day (Saturday)- Exodus 20:8-11. But it was a SIGN of agreement between God and the Jews. The sabbath day was standing as a SIGN of agreement between Israel and God. And it was not just sabbath of day, there were also sabbath of month, and sabbath of year. So it was referred to as sabbaths.

Ezekiel  20:12 

Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.

God gave this law of sabbath to Moses, not Abraham or Isaac or Jacob. It was given to Moses, and Moses represented the custodian of the law.

The law of sabbath was pointing to Christ who is the REST of God. It is only in Christ we can find the true sabbatical rest.

● In the church dispensation, God is not dealing with the Israelites, but with the church. This means that God's program for the church is different from God's program for Israel. The church has not replaced the Israelites. While the church can be referred to as the Israel of God, it doesn't suggest replacement. The church is a combination of different race, tribes, nationalists that believed in Christ by faith and are redeemed by the finished work of Christ. 

Romans  11:1 

I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 

11. I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

God has not cast away or replaced the Jews. The church is raised up to provoke them to jealousy. Therefore, the sabbatical sign between God and Israel is not for the church. 

For the church, Jesus Christ is our rest. We therefore don't find rest in the day (Saturday), but in Christ. Jesus said come unto me and you will find REST. And Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath. And as Lord of the sabbath, being in Christ gives the sabbatical rest.

However, worship is done on Sundays or Saturdays or any other day. God is to be glorified. We are not bound by the law of moses to worship God only on Saturdays, but any day dedicated to the glory of Christ and for the furtherance of the Gospel light.

Romans  14:5-6

5. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. 

6. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it…

▪︎ It was recorded that there were certain times the early church met daily- Acts 2:42-46

▪︎ There were other times the church met on the first day of the week. Acts 20:7

In Nigeria, the majority of the christian body meet on Sundays, with other weekly days of meeting. We should continue in the liberty in Christ, only use not our liberty for maliciousness and lasciviousness.
